Sometimes there’s a huge tree stump that needs to be removed. It can’t be stump ground, because it can’t be left to rot beneath the surface. It also can’t easily be cut into smaller pieces. The only way to get it out is to dig all around it with a large excavator. Then at some point it can be tipped sideways or upside down so as much soil can be removed from the roots as possible. Even still, once this is the case, it still has to be carted away someplace. That is easier said than done! It’s often hard to grab with the machine, and then the next problem is being able to lift it high enough to get it into a truck. Another problem still is trying to actually set it down in the truck without bending or damaging something. That’s why sometimes it’s great just to have an old truck around specifically for this kind of job. We no longer own and operate the truck in the picture, but it served us for several years hauling logs, tree stumps, soil, and plowing snow – before both the motor and transmission said Goodnight. We do whatever it takes to get the job done!
